Two boys from Manipur will be among the 24 children who will be honoured on Republic day with national bravery awards. Both the boys, Brainson (10) and Tooldev Sharma (9), hail from Imphal.
Brainson and his younger brother, Wayengamgba were alone in the house. A live wire fell inside the room entangling his younger brother. Brainson kicked out the live wire. He sprained his angle and sustained bruises in the face as result of the electric shock and fell on the floor. But he succeeded in extricating the child from the live wire.
Tooldev chanced to see a three-year boy getting drowned a little distance away from the house. Since he did not know how to swim he got hold of the boy’s shirt collar while anchoring himself with his left hand from the bamboo staff at the shore. He screamed to draw the attention of people, who rescued both of them.
They will get certificates, purses and medals from the Prime Minister during the Republic day celebration.
They will be given free high school education. Besides they will get financial assistance for professional courses later in their life.
