The licences of two fair price shops in east Delhi were suspended by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain on Thursday after several irregularities were identified during a surprise inspection.

Geeta Colony first on list

Mr. Hussain, accompanied by officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, visited three fair price shops in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony. At two of these shops, Mr. Hussain said that groceries and wheat flour of brands other than those supplied by the government were being sold. He ordered the suspension of the licences of these shops.

More checks likely

Mr. Hussain said similar surprise checks would be conducted at other fair price shops across the city.

He added that the department would ensure that information on the fair price dealer, food articles available, the working hours and complaint mechanism be displayed at all fair price shops.

According to the Food and Civil Supplies Department, a total of 72.78 lakh beneficiaries are entitled to use the 2,500-odd fair price shops in Delhi for ration.
