Two criminals wanted in armed robbery arrested

Two men, allegedly involved in four recent cases involving armed robbery followed by an attempt to murder, were arrested in North-East Delhi, the police said on Tuesday. Shahnawaj (25) and Anil (30) were found to have committed crime at Shakarpur, New Usmanpur, Jyoti Nagar and Jafrabad, and are suspected to be involved in several criminal cases in the National Capital Region , said R.A. Sanjeev, DCP (North East).

“They were arrested on March 11 on the basis of information that two criminals in possession of illegal arms would pass through Jafrabad. A trap was laid at Main Brahampuri Road near Kalyan Cinema and, at around 10:15 a.m., they were spotted on a black Pulsar bike,” Mr. Sanjeev said. The bike was approaching from the Ghonda Chowk direction towards Seelampur. Both of its riders were detained. Their search led to the recovery of a loaded pistol and four live cartridges of 7.65 bore and a loaded revolver with six rounds in its chamber in addition to four more live cartridges.

“ Apart from the cases registered against him in Delhi, Shanawaj disclosed his involvement in the planning of the murder of Mobin, a complainant in a case involving the stringent MCOCA against a local criminal,” Mr. Sanjeev added. In a similar operation, 15 cases of snatching and auto theft were solved with the arrest of two men in South Delhi.
