Two crane drivers working on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway project were electrocuted to death after coming in contact of live wires in Dadri on Thursday.

Dadri police station in-charge Sanjay Kumar Tyagi said the deceased have been identified as Harpreet and Gurdeep, both residents of Punjab.

According to sources, Harpreet and Gurdeep came in contact with 11,000 watt high tension wires, which left them severely injured, around 11 a.m.

“They sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to a private hospital nearby. However, both succumbed to injuries during treatment,” said Mr. Tyagi, adding that their families have been informed.

Workers protest

Their deaths were followed by protests by other workers.

A police officer said power supply should have been stopped while work was on. “Such construction works must be executed with proper planning. Before commissioning such work, power supply must be halted,” the official said.
