Two Delhi Police sub-inspectors have been sent to district lines for allegedly harassing a woman complainant by sending her a Facebook friend request and luring her to a movie theatre on the pretext of ‘discussing’ a case.

A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against the officers who were posted at Kotwali station, said the police on Sunday.

The complainant, who works as a marketing executive with an insurance company, had filed a complaint against the sub-inspectors in the first week of April.

Public Grievances Cell

“The complaint was referred to the Public Grievances Cell. In the initial inquiry report, the policemen concerned were found involved in the acts. They have been sent to district lines with immediate effect and a detailed inquiry has been ordered in the case,” said a senior police officer.

In her complaint, the woman said she was embroiled in a property dispute with her neighbour for the past few years. She alleged that on December 14, 2017, a group of men and women barged into her house, and thrashed her and her family members.

During the scuffle, the men in the group tried to disrobe her. The incident was caught on tape by her elder sister. The pictures and footage were submitted to the police for investigation.

“Two counter cases from both families were registered at Kotwali police station under sections of molestation and scuffle. We had ordered the investigation in both the cases,” added the officer.

“Sub-Inspector Vipin was ordered to probe the case filed by the woman, while the counter case was investigated by Sub-Inspector Harendra,” said the official.

The woman alleged that during the course of the investigation she was called to the police station several times.

Getting familiar

SI Harendra allegedly extended help to the woman in the counter case filed against her. He tried to befriend her and also sent her a friend request on Facebook, said the woman

SI Netram of the same police station also met her and took her mobile number on pretext of helping her with the case.

In the first week of April, SI Netram called the victim and asked her to come near the Abhishek Cineplex in Chandni Chowk on pretext of discussing several points in the case.

When she reached the spot, the SI took her inside the theatre on the pretext of discussing matters and allegedly tried to touch her in an appropriate way.

“I felt uncomfortable and rushed out,” the woman said in her complaint.

The complainant claimed that the SI followed her out of the theatre and suggested that they go to a hotel if she was feeling uncomfortable in the theatre.

The woman left the spot and filed a complaint with a senior police official at the police headquarters.

“The cases filed by the woman and her neighbour have been transferred to District Intelligence Unit [DIU] for investigation. The detailed inquiry report of Public Grievances cell against the Sub-Inspectors concerned is awaited. But they have been sent to district lines till the inquiry ends,” added the officer.
