: A tweet to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and some quick action on the part of officials of the Delhi division of the Railways helped in the rescue of a missing 14-year-old girl from Jharkhand within six hours. The girl had left her home in Jharkhand on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the family managed to locate her in a CCTV footage from their nearby railway station but was not sure which train she had boarded. Not knowing how to trace her, the girl’s sister tweeted to Mr. Prabhu on Sunday at 7 p.m., posting the details of the girl. Within minutes the railway machinery came into action and on Sunday night, the girl was traced to the Ghaziabad railway station, where personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) found her sitting in the general compartment of the Muri Express.

The girl’s sister had also tweeted that she could have left home due to pressure of studies. The tweet was forwarded to various divisions across the country.

“Had it not for the Railway Minister, the girl might have disappeared,” said Arun Arora, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi.

Mr. Arora said that the initial tweet didn’t have all the details and the girl’s sister was asked for her contact number. “Announcements were made to flash the girl’s photo on LCD screens across divisions,” he said. The girl was handed over to her relatives on Monday.
