A 40-year-old tutor was arrested on Friday for allegedly trying to rape a seven-year-old girl in Ghaziabad’s Khoda on Thursday evening.

According to the police, Ram Bahadur Sharma allegedly tried to rape the minor at her home while tutoring her on Thursday evening. The victim’s mother said he came to their house around 7.30 p.m.

“I was sitting in my room and Mr. Sharma was teaching my daughter in the drawing room as usual. I heard her cry out loudly and rushed to the drawing room. His hands were inside my daughter’s clothes,” the mother claimed.

She raised an alarm. Locals gathered at the spot, thrashed the tutor and handed him over to the police. “The accused was brought to the police station in an unconscious state. The mother lodged an FIR against him and he was arrested. He was taken to the district hospital for treatment and sent to jail on Friday morning,” said Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police (City), Ghaziabad.

The police have arrested Mr. Sharma under Sections 376 (rape), 511 (attempting to commit offence), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 7/8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

According to a police officer, the accused had been tutoring the girl since the past four months. “The tutor and his wife separated five years ago,” he said.
