The six juveniles had vandalised the observation home and targeted neighbours

Six of the juveniles lodged at the Majnu Ka Tila observation home, who had been indulging in violence since August 7, have now been shifted to Sewa Kutir in Mukherjee Nagar.

“With this, 10 juveniles have so far been transferred from the observation home to Sewa Kutir after violence broke out on the night of August 7. Six of them had earlier refused to cooperate with the home staff. However, they agreed to shift to Sewa Kutir after other officials intervened and counselled them,” said an official.

The official said the inmates have been transferred to the other home to facilitate renovation of the Majnu Ka Tila complex which has been vandalised by them. “They broke the doors that segregated the three sections inside the home. They had also set ablaze the beddings and home records,” he added.

The unruly juveniles had earlier been targeting the area residents, pelting stones at their houses and shops. Some of the locals also sustained injuries. Fearing that the situation would get aggravated further, some residents had closed their shops. They alleged that the inmates, who had taken control of the building’s roof, would pass lewd remarks at the women passers-by. “There is a lukewarm response from the police and other agencies concerned to our grievances,” alleged an area resident.
