The Chamber of Trade and Industries and the Aam Aadmi Party’s trade wing will stage a ‘Delhi Vyapar Bandh’ and a massive protest on Tuesday against the ongoing sealing drive ordered by the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee along with the municipalities.
Chamber president Brajesh Gupta said the traders’ association had decided that all markets will remain shut in protest against this ‘unfair’ drive against the city’s traders.
“Traders are being harassed by officials of the three municipal agencies since the past month by sealing of shops and not being given a valid reason for the act. The association has decided to hold Delhi Vyapar Bandh on Tuesday,” Mr. Gupta said.
He requested the BJP to stop the sealing drive and “illegal collection in name of procurement charges”.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also announced its participation in the protest. It said that around seven lakh commercial establishments belonging to about 2,000 trade associations across Delhi will participate in the trade bandh.
Markets to remain shut
Markets including Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Kashmere Gate, Sadar Bazar, Connaught Place, Khan Market, Kamla Nagar, Model Town, Defence Colony, South Extension parts-I and II, Lajpat and Greater Kailash parts-I and II will remain shut on Tuesday.
The protesters will stage dharnas at six places in the city demanding protection of the interest of traders and a suitable law in their favour.
