The Delhi government on Wednesday decided to provide free LPG cylinder for the first time to beneficiaries under ‘Kerosene-free Delhi’ and to subsidise three additional cylinders for all 3,56,395 beneficiaries under the scheme.
Under the scheme, which was approved by the Cabinet on June 26 this year and which would make Delhi the first kerosene-free State, all AAY/BPL/JRC ration card-holders using kerosene oil were being given LPG cylinders, two burner gas stoves, Suraksha rubber pipes and blue booklets, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said. To make the scheme fully operational and purposeful, the Cabinet now decided to give all beneficiaries cylinders. To fill the first cylinder would cost Rs. 399, and for this a sum of Rs. 14.22 crore would be released, she said. The decision would increase the total expenditure on account of the scheme to Rs.85.91 crore. Since the scheme was aimed at the poor, the government also decided to subsidise three additional LPG cylinders.
