The Delhi Government on Tuesday constituted a core group under the Chief Secretary to study the proposals on having an IT-enabled parking management system in Delhi and to submit comments on the matter.
A presentation on the system was made before Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit during a high-level meeting at Delhi Secretariat. It was stated that the Delhi Government was considering a web-based parking solution to overcome control of parking lots by mafias, leakage of revenue and encroachment on non-parking areas in the Capital.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, CM’s Principal Secretary P.K. Tripathi, MCD Commissioner K. S. Mehra, NDMC Chairperson Parimal Rai, Secretary (IT) Savitur Prasad and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. P. Garg besides senior officials of the Transport Department.
The core group, Ms. Dikshit said, would also comprise Commissioner (Transport), Commissioner (MCD), Chairman (NDMC), Secretary (IT), Jt. CP(Traffic), Project Director (Survey of India) and a representative from National Innovation Council as members.
The proposal which has been submitted relates to development of a web-based parking solution which will eliminate human intervention. The payments will be facilitated with use of mobile phone and on-line availability of parking space will also be displayed on the mobile screen.
As per the proposal, two pilot projects would be taken up at Bhikaji Cama Place and Greater Kailash-II.
On getting the feedback from the core group, the Delhi Government will take further action.
