Three suspects, one cop hurt in Noida encounter

Six men held, all allegedly part of inter-State robbers’ gang

The Gautam Budh Nagar police have arrested six criminals following an encounter at Kasna in Greater Noida on Monday afternoon.

Three criminals and a police officer suffered bullet injuries in the crossfire and are admitted to the district hospital.

According to the police, they got a tip-off that some miscreants were going to execute a crime in the Greater Noida area. “Following the tip-off, we laid a trap near Chuhadpur underpass in Kasna. We spotted two bikes and one car coming towards us,” said Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.

On spotting the police, the criminals opened fired.

40 minutes of firing

“The firing lasted around 40 minutes after which we managed to overpower the criminals and arrested all six of them,” Ms. Suniti said.

The accused have been identified as Kuldeep Singh, Narendra Singh, Ravendra , Surjeet, Sunil and Jitendra.

Kuldeep, Ravendra and Narendra and a police officer were injured in the crossfire. “All the injured have been admitted to the district hospital," said a senior police officer.

The accused have been booked under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25 in Arms Act.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were a part of a professional gang involved in inter-State robberies. Three country-made pistols, one car and two motorcycles were recovered from them.
