The police have identified three persons through whom the two-year-old baby girl, who was recently admitted to the AIIMS' Trauma Centre in a battered condition, had reached Rajkumar.

The police are conducting searches in Mumbai to trace Rajkumar.

It is learnt that they were in contact with him and were trying to convince him to join the investigations, but one of his friends dissuaded him saying that the girl “adopted” by him was in a serious condition and that the police were looking for him. Rajkumar then panicked, switched off his phone and went underground.

Investigations have revealed that Rajkumar has been married for the past 10 years and his wife lives in Dwarka Sector 16. His two-year-old child lives with his in-laws in Mumbai. The police suspect that Rajkumar was away in Mumbai when the baby sustained serious head injuries on January 18 and was rushed to the Trauma Centre by a 14-year-old girl. The police are yet to come across any evidence to establish that the girl hurt the baby.

The police have also identified two women and a man through whom the child landed in Rajkumar's hands. He then took her to a guesthouse in Mahipalpur, where he had been living with the teenaged girl for the past three months. He runs a cab service and owns two vehicles.

According to sources, the police are in touch with three persons and they are helping in the probe to track down the child's biological parents. “They have been cooperating with us in the case. Our main focus is to restore the girl to her parents,” said a police officer.

It is learnt that some persons had contacted the Trauma Centre claiming that the baby belonged to them and insisted on seeing her. As the girl is in the Intensive Care Unit, they were not allowed in and told to contact the police for verification.

For their part, the Sangam Vihar police are on the lookout for Rajkumar for allegedly having sexually abused the young girl who had fled from her father's residence last year. She had in her statement before the court alleged that Rajkumar had raped her on several occasions during her stay with him.
