Three minors killed in Delhi accidents

Drivers of speeding car and truck arrested

Three minors, including a girl, were killed and as many injured in separate accidents in the Capital during the past 24 hours.

Goverdhan Joshi (40), an private audit accountant in the Army, was going towards Connaught Place from Delhi Cantonment on a motorcycle along with his wife Sonia (37), son Gautam (11) and daughter Bhoomi (8) when a speeding car hit them from behind on Sardar Patel Marg around 5 p.m. Gautam died on the spot, while the three escaped with minor injuries.

The driver, Sarabjit (19), has been arrested. “The accused took the car of his father, who works at a taxi stand, while he was sleeping and went for a joy ride. He consumed beer on the way and hit the family on the motorcycle from behind at high speed. Gautam was dragged some 50 metres before the car came to a halt. Sarabjit does not have a driving licence,” said a senior police officer.

Earlier in the day, Varun (13) was walking along a road in Sadar Bazar around 5 a.m. when a speeding truck ran over him. The truck driver, Suresh, has been arrested.

In a hit-and-run case, Rupa (12) was fatally knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near the Khajoori Khas police station on Saturday evening.
