March 31, 2010 09:10 pm | Updated 09:10 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Two under-graduate students and a research scholar of Jamia Millia Islamia who were allegedly found guilty of sexual harassment have been expelled from the university and debarred from the campus.

The under-graduate students were allegedly guilty of harassing a fellow girl student while the research scholar was reportedly harassing a teacher in the university.

The complaints against the offenders were reportedly made within the span of a fortnight.

“After receiving complaints and carrying out investigations, the Proctorial department of the University recently found three students guilty of being involved in different cases of sexual harassment on the campus. Taking a serious view of this development, the university has expelled all three students from the university and a campus ban has also been imposed on them,” said a statement issued by the university.

Zero tolerance

“Jamia Millia Islamia as an institution has zero tolerance for those elements found indulging in sexual harassment on the campus. In order to send a strong message to potential offenders, the university has taken exemplary and firm action against those who have been found to indulge in sexual harassment on the campus in the last few days,” the statement said.
