Three persons, including an MBA, have been arrested for allegedly creating a fake Indian Railways Recruitment Board website and duping several hundred candidates of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing them jobs.
The accused, Sagar Saxena (32), Virender Sharma (29) and Pravin Kumar (24), had duped more than 400 candidates from Bihar, West Bengal and Haryana of Rs.1.5 lakh each, the police said. The three were arrested by the South Delhi Police team following a tip-off on Sunday.
Their fourth accomplice, Manish, is absconding.
A case has been registered at Kazi Mohamadpur police station in Bihar in this connection.
The trio purportedly told the police during interrogation that they along with Manish, a West Bengal resident, created a fake website that resembled the Railway Recruitment Board, Muzaffarnagar website and uploaded the roll numbers of several candidates on it showing them as successful in the written exam.
The accused then approached these candidates posing as railway officials and demanded money from them to help them get the job.
Sagar, a commerce graduate, designed and hosted the fake website. Pravin, a resident of Sagarpur West, arranged for the domain name for this fake website. Virender, a resident of Khanpur, picked up the roll numbers of some of the candidates from the original website at the behest of Manish and uploaded them on the fake one. Manish collected the money from these candidates and the four distributed the money among themselves.
Pravin is pursuing B.Com course from Delhi University through correspondence. Virender is an MBA from a college at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
