The victims include a woman and her 12-year-old son
Three persons, including a woman and her minor son, were burnt to death in a fire that broke out in their house at Bawana here in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Narain Singh (83), his daughter-in-law Krishna (42) and her son Deepak (12).
The fire broke out around 3 a.m. when Krishna, her three sons and Narain Singh were sleeping in the double-storey house in Sultanpur Dabas. While Narain Singh, Krishna and one of her sons, Deepak, fell unconscious after inhaling smoke, Kanwaljeet and Dheeraj were woken up and ran out.
When the two raised an alarm, the neighbours gathered at the spot and a call was made to the Delhi Fire Service Department and the police.
Two fire tenders reached the spot and took more than 30 minutes to douse the flames.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where Krishna and Deepak were declared brought dead. Narain Singh, who had sustained serious burns, was later shifted to Lok Nayak Hospital where he died in the evening.
“Narain in his statement said they went to sleep around 9-30 p.m. on Wednesday and left a room heater on. It seems that a spark from the heater caused the fire which soon engulfed the house. The three fell unconscious and could not escape leading to their death,” said a senior police officer.
Krishna's husband Rakesh, a property dealer, was sleeping at his office in Rohini when the fire broke out.
