‘They have a problem with dissenting voices’

Umar Khalid was invited to seminar

According to JNU student Umar Khalid, the attack by the ABVP was not new to central university campuses across the country.

“The protest by the ABVP had nothing to do with me being invited to Delhi University. The problem they had was with the freedom of expression and the dissenting voices that would speak at the literary event,” said the Ph.D scholar.

‘BJP instructing ABVP’

“I can safely come to this conclusion as the ABVP vandalised the college on Tuesday and got the seminar cancelled even after I did not participate,” he added.

The student leader also said that Hyderabad Central University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and other central universities had earlier had their democratic space attacked, and it was now Delhi University’s turn.

Mr. Khalid added that the BJP had instructed the ABVP, which is the party’s student wing, to create an environment of fear so that nobody speaks out against them.
