April 2012 - Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh first unveils his ambitious plan to overhaul the university’s coveted three-year undergraduate course to a four-year programme.
September 2012 - An academic congress “enabling the young, redefining education” is called. University says feedback from students and teachers convince them that FYUP is the need of the hour
A few weeks later - A 61-member task force is set up to “make suggestions on a frame work for the conduct of teaching programmes to the university” among other things.
December 2012 - Notice for a meeting of the Academic Council, the highest decision-making body in the university is sent to its members. One agenda is to accept the recommendations of the 61-member task force for a four-year undergraduate programme with multiple degree options. Another agenda is to make an addition to a university ordinance to provide for three degrees — Associate Baccalaureate, Baccalaureate and Baccalaureate with Honours / B.Tech.
Later in December 24: Both the agendas accepted. University Registrar sends a press release that a “revolutionary course” has been adopted.
December 24, 2012 : A special meeting of the Academic Council is called during the winter vacation to consider FYUP. A structure is passed.
December 26, 2012 : A special meeting of the Executive Council, which has to approve the Academic Council’s decisions, is held to pass a structure of FYUP.
March 5, 2013: Dean colleges write to departments to prepare courses as per the structure by the end of March.
May 7, 2013: A special Academic Council meeting held to consider courses.
May 9, 2013: A special meeting of the Executive Council called.
May 27, 2013: Academic Council meetings held to consider courses.
June 5, 2013: Sale of admission forms starts.
