A girl child’s struggle against many a social odds since the moment she is born in India is no more a secret. The task is even more difficult for those belonging to the underprivileged sections. There are several welfare schemes for them to ensure that families consider them as assets. While the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development introduced the Dhanlakshmi scheme in 2008, several other States, including Delhi (Ladli scheme), also launched similar programmes to protect and nurture the girl children.

Despite all these safeguards, girl children are still being pushed into earning for their families at a tender age. The camera zooms in on one such who was seen begging outside the historic Jama Masjid in Old Delhi.
