Almost a fortnight after the gang-rape of a physiotherapy student in a moving bus, a 16-year-old girl travelling in an Orange “cluster scheme” bus was molested by a drunken conductor of another bus at Mandi House in the heart of New Delhi on Saturday night.
The accused has been arrested and molestation charges have been slapped against him. He, along with the bus driver and its conductor, has been dismissed from service. It all happened around 11 p.m. in the bus plying on route No.410 from Khyala Resettlement Colony to Jal Vihar Terminal. Finding the teenaged girl alone in the moving bus, accused Ranjit Singh, who worked as a conductor in another bus running on the same route, approached her, proposed marriage and groped her. The girl panicked and pleaded with the conductor to stop the bus, but driver and its conductor silently watched the accused misbehave with her.
The bus driver, who had lost his way due to traffic diversions in the area because of the ongoing Delhi Metro construction activity, stopped at Mandi House to make enquiries. Two constables on regular picket duty spotted the girl weeping inside the bus and swung into action. The driver Prahlad Singh, its conductor Tejbir and accused Ranjit were taken into custody for questioning. The bus was impounded.
Investigations revealed that after a quarrel with her parents, the girl had left home around 9-30 p.m. on Saturday and boarded the bus in Khyala, after she was told that it was going towards Lajpat Nagar where she wanted to take shelter in an orphanage. There were nearly a dozen passengers in the bus who all got off one after the other along the way and she was left alone in the bus in the company of the driver, its conductor and accused Ranjit.

Govt should consider running ladies only Bus and Train services run by lady bus drivers and lady conductors at Late Nights
Kudos to the cop..
Now who to blame for the conductor's behavior - the Govt ? The society and the people's thought have become rotten. Inspite of all the upheavals, idiotic conductor and bus-driver were just watching ? We indians are really thick skinned..
Are our mothers and sisters unsafe in this Capital city/and this
great nation which has taught so much good to the world ?
Is the law waiting for another major catastrophe and Rampant
Crime committed again and again against our women folk.?
These guys should be severely punished.
A harsh sentence of prison term and ignominy amongst their own
families plus temporary un-employment would be a hard lesson learnt.
There must be something very wrong, very sick, and very absent in some people; here is a situation where, while a nation's conscience, seared and still burning by the awful trauma and subsequent death of an innocent young citizen, is still to come to full terms about a crime whose foul centrality is male dominance and its expression, a crude and brutal debasement of a woman's physical and psychological integrity and dignity - and another girl has been assaulted in a somewhat similar manner and in the same city.
It will be altogether frightening if it emerges that such a sickness emanates from a mindset produced in a specific socio-politico-cultural environment, for our cities are fast becoming homogenous and thus, it appears, the risk of the geographical spread and numbers of such crimes can be both rapid and exponential. If such is true, then there is all the more reason for urgency in legal and social reform - and maybe even in the implementation of very harsh punishments.
Delhi man cannot control themselves......pathetic.
The Police must ensure that this one also gets the punishment as soon as
possible, so that the society gets a message that not only rape but any
sort of sexual assault on women will not be tolerated.
