A 43-year-old tantrik has been arrested for allegedly raping his domestic help at Devli village here.
The Police Control Room received a call on Thursday regarding a rape in Devli village. The police reached the spot and took the victim to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences before recording her statement.
The victim later told the police that she worked as part-time maid for the accused, who raped her while she was cooking food at his house. She then informed her husband about the incident and he reached the spot and informed the police. The tantrik was found absconding. Several raids were conducted at different locations, but he remained untraceable.
“Criminal intelligence was developed, which revealed that accused was present somewhere in Sonepat. On Friday, a team was sent to hunt for the accused in Sonepat and nearby areas, and finally he was arrested him from a bus stand,” said a senior police officer.
During interrogation, the accused purportedly disclosed that he was planning to escape to an ashram in Ayodhya, where he had learnt astrology in the past.
“He also disclosed that before committing the rape, he had made efforts to persuade the victim o give in to his demands. He even tried to lure her by offering her money. When these efforts failed, he raped her,” said the official.
According to the police, the accused hails from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. He is married and has four children, all of whom live in his native village. He dropped out of school and started learning astrology at Ayodhya. After that he came to Delhi and started running an astrology business from his rented house.
