The Delhi Tamil Sangam on Wednesday honoured Padma awardees from Tamil Nadu including Nobel laureate of Indian origin Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Apollo Hospital chief Pratap Reddy, music director A.R. Rahman, retired IPS officer and former CBI chief D.R. Karthikeyan, who headed the Special Investigation Team which probed the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, and Siddha doctor Dr. J.R. Krishnamurthy.
The felicitation function was organised jointly by Tamil newspaper, Dinamani, whose Editor K. Vaidyanathan presented shawls and mementos. Tamil Sangam president S. Krishnamurthy and its secretary Sakthi Perumal were among those who offered felicitations to the awardees.
In his response, Mr. Ramakrishnan said he felt privileged by the honour. The Nobel prize awarded to him should inspire young Indian students to take up research in a big way. Other recipients thanked the Sangam for honouring them.
