The youth wing of CanKids comprising teenage cancer survivors, who are among the best ambassadors of the fact that childhood cancer is curable, on Saturday spread the message of hope to cancer suffering children.
They gathered at the British School in Chanakyapuri to celebrate National Cancer Survivors' Day to tell the families of cancer afflicted children that there is life after cancer. In the backdrop of World Environment Day that was celebrated recently, the cancer survivors also took up the cause of environment and spread awareness about it among cancer-affected families and their children.
“Every family in India faces the myth that once stricken with cancer, it's a battle lost. But that is not true, and the fact is that childhood cancer is curable if detected on time and treated properly,'' said CanKids president Poonam Bagai.
CanKids is a family support group helping children and their families faced with cancer. CanKids was set up in January 2004 to provide a complete range of support services to children with cancer and their families, from moment of diagnosis, through treatment and after – into survivorship, or relapse, palliation and bereavement support.
