The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed Vidya Bharati School, located in Rohini Sector 15, to supply free winter uniforms to students belonging to the poor and disadvantaged sections, while taking note of a submission that the school had only provided oversized second-hand uniforms to a few children.
Justice Manmohan passing the interim order and issued notices to the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education and Vidya Bharati School on a writ petition moved by nine students through their parents.
The Court provided interim relief to the petitioners on the ground that the Delhi Right to Education Rules, 2011, and a December 30, 2013, notification by the Directorate of Education had laid down the provision for supply of free textbooks and uniforms to students belonging to the economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups by the schools.
Khagesh Jha, who was representing the petitioners, said the school, which admitted poor students on the Directorate of Education’s orders, had informed their parents that since the academic session wéas going to end after a few months, the books and uniforms will be provided in the next session.
Mr. Jha also pointed out that there was no mechanism for redressal of grievances in the Directorate of Education.
