While some chose to spend their Sunday in the comfort of their homes, content with eating steaming treats and watching the rain, others headed out to make the most of the limited opportunity the monsoon has given Delhiites to frolic in the rain.
Children were seen enjoying getting drenched and playing at the lawns that surround India Gate as a van outside Lodhi Gardens did brisk business selling steaming momos and soup to those who were adventurous enough to step out in the afternoon.
The rain also brought with it problems of water-logging that was reported from pockets of the city according to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
A building collapsed partially in Karol Bagh and a few trees that were not strong enough to withstand the rain also uprooted. Traffic was affected in some parts due to water logging but as it was a holiday there was not much impact.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25 degrees. The city, till 5.30 p.m., received 35.8 mm of rain.
Traffic jamsThe forecast says the cloudy weather is likely to continue with rain or thunder showers likely in most parts of NCR.
According to Delhi Police, traffic jams were reported at Kashmere Gate in the north and Adchini and AIIMS junction in South Delhi in the afternoon, but it was cleared by evening.
Residents also reported rain in Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Gurgaon in Haryana. Sunday’s maximum humidity was 95 percent while the minimum was 83 percent.
