: The mega parent-teacher meeting organised across Delhi’s government schools on Saturday turned tragic for a 12-year-old girl who hanged herself at her home in West Delhi’s Khyala.

Daughter to casual labourers, the girl was a student of Class VII at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Vishnu Garden.

During the meet organised on Saturday, one of her teachers told her aunts, who had accompanied her for the meeting, that she was disinterested in some of the subjects.

When her mother learnt about it, she allegedly reprimanded her and asked her to improve in her subjects.

The mother then proceeded to cook lunch while the girl went to her room. The suicide came to light a few minutes later when her mother visited her room and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia took to Twitter to announce that he had ordered a magisterial enquiry into the circumstances of the suicide.
