‘Structural safety lacking in CP’

March 11, 2017 01:10 am | Updated 01:10 am IST - NEW DELHI

It took two cave-ins in Connaught Place to stir the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) into action, but the CAG had raised concerns over structural safety of buildings here in its 2016 audit report.

In auditing the redevelopment of CP, the CAG found the plan and “structural safety of the area lacking”. The CAG report said: “Facilities like subways, escalators, underground parking space and improvement of landscaping and lighting intended to ease traffic and pedestrian movement were not completed.”

The report said the matter had been referred to the government and the NDMC in September 2015 and again in May 2016, but there were no replies as of August 16, 2016.
