Stop witch-hunting: LoP to Kejriwal

Vijender Gupta asks CM to look at reason for water shortage

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijender Gupta on Monday advised Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to “stop witch-hunting” when it comes to issues related to water supply in the Capital. Instead, Mr. Gupta said, the Chief Minister should focus on “real causes” behind the problem.

‘Tanker mafia at work’

Alleging that the GPS system installed in Delhi Jal Board (DJB) water tankers had collapsed, and that the “private tanker mafia” was active in shortage-prone areas, Mr. Gupta argued that the Kejriwal-led government was busy “hunting for excuses for sacking its Water Minister [Kapil Mishra]”.

“The Kejriwal government, after a resounding defeat for his non-governance, incompetence and corruption in the recent elections to the three municipal corporations, is in such a state of panic that instead of taking steps to supply potable water, he is busy investigating inflated water bills and not solving the problem of water shortage,” Mr. Gupta alleged.

‘DJB’s bores almost dry’

Arguing that the DJB’s bores were “almost dry” and that the water mafia had control over the tanker distribution network, he claimed that many of the water supply lines were choked.
