Stop regularising illegal buildings, HC tells Delhi government

To end unauthorised constructions in the Capital, the High Court has suggested that the city government “stop regularising” illegal buildings.

A Bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar gave this suggestion during the hearing of a petition by the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of a south Delhi colony against unauthorised constructions and encroachment in nearby areas.

“Stop compounding and stop regularising,” the Bench said to the Delhi government, while issuing notices to the government, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, the police and Delhi Jal Board. The court sought their reply to the petition before the next date of hearing on July 24.

The court also directed the petitioner to file an affidavit listing its members and indicating that their properties are not illegally constructed. The RWA of Chattarpur Extension Colony has alleged that illegal constructions and encroachments were on nearby, under a high-tension power line. The RWA said it had complained several times before the authorities before approaching the court but in vain.
