A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a police van from Kotla Mubarakpur police station on August 6, the police said on Wednesday.

Stating that Ajay alias Adesh was arrested with help of technical and human surveillance, the police said two more vehicles have been recovered.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baaniya said the police van was recovered on Monday night.

“The vehicle, which was concealed, was spotted in Tughlakabad village during patrolling by the staff of Govindpuri police station ahead of Independence Day,” he said, adding that the accused wasn’t found the same day.

Other cars

The police then kept a watch on the area and checked CCTV footage. Ajay, a resident of Tughlaq lane jhuggi cluster, was identified as the accused. “The police received a tip-off about his location after he was identified,” said a police officer.

During investigation, two more cars stolen from Defence Colony and Mandir Marg this year were recovered. “Ajay was previously involved in two cases — one of Arms Act and the other of theft,” said Mr. Baaniya.
