Universities that are fully-funded by the State government have been given greater autonomy when it comes to spending so they can have urgent repair works or renovations done on their own.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is also Finance and Education Minister, had on Tuesday instructed the Finance Department to allow Vice-Chancellors of State-funded universities autonomy to sanction new projects up to ₹5 crore. For repair and maintenance works carried out through the Public Works Department, they will have full autonomy. For repairs done by any other agency, the limit will be ₹1 crore, Mr. Sisodia’s note to the Finance Department said.
Mr. Sisodia said this measure was meant to decentralise the process of having infrastructure projects done, which currently need the government’s sanction. Among universities that will be covered by the move are Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and Ambedkar University Delhi.
