St. Stephen’s College first cut-off list is almost an exact reflection of its last year’s cut-offs with a 98 per cent asking rate for English and Economics and 97 per cent requirement for History. The cut-offs for other subjects have minuscule changes from last year. For example, the requirement for Mathematics has increased marginally from 97 per cent to 97.25 per cent.
In the Humanities division, Philosophy has seen the biggest jump from 96 per cent to 97 per cent. The Sciences have mostly registered a marginal rise. The requirement for Chemistry is now 96.33 per cent, up marginally from last year’s 96 per cent. Physics now requires 96.66 per cent, also an increase from last year’s 96.33 per cent.
Sanskrit as usual has the lowest asking rate of 65 per cent for all students from all streams and categories.
“We got about 25,000 applications, however, we are yet to count some more and this could go up to 27,000 or 28,000 applications. Around 37,000 students were registered in all. As usual the most coveted courses were Economics (Honours) which had 6,400 applications and English (Honours) which had 6,100 applications,” said St. Stephen’s College spokesperson Karen Gabrielle, adding that the application process was closed by noon on Monday.
The College has a separate application procedure, different from the university as it is a minority institution.
There are separate cut-offs for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (non-Christian), Christian Scheduled Tribes, Church of North India (CNI), CNI Delhi Diocese, Other Christians, Christian Person with Disability, Person with Disability, for some particular subjects, and for Urdu students.
Even here, cut-offs for most coveted courses are high.
The Economics (Honours) and English (Honours) courses are commanding 95 per cent cut-offs each from Scheduled Caste categories, Philosophy is commanding 92 per cent, Mathematics 92.75 per cent and History 92 per cent.
The college also has different cut-offs for Commerce, Science and Humanities streams.
As per the university’s rules, Mathematics is not a requirement for taking Commerce this year and individual colleges are not allowed to come up with any additional eligibility criteria this year.
There are around 410 seats available in the college. Out of this, History has 60 seats, Mathematics 50, Chemistry and Physics 60 each, and Philosophy and Sanskrit 10 seats.
Meeting the cut-offs, however, do not guarantee a seat in St. Stephen’s College as it does in other colleges of DU. There is also a personal interview and only candidates passing this interview are accepted.
The interviews will begin on June 20 and go on till July 6. The fees have also been increased marginally this year.
