The Delhi Police on Thursday sought cancellation of bail of the teenager in the Mercedes hit-and-run case.
A 33-year-old business consultant, Siddharth Sharma, was killed in the accident on April 4, when the marketing executive was trying to cross a road near Ludlow Castle School and the speeding Mercedes hit him.
The Juvenile Justice Board had on April 26 granted him bail in the case. Earlier, it had rejected his bail application, saying that he is a repeat offender as he was earlier booked in another case of rash driving. The boy’s father is also an accused in the case.
Arguing on an appeal against the grant of bail to the juvenile, counsel for the city police, Atul Srivastava, argued that the bail was granted without filing of a fresh application, grounds and sharing of the report of the psychoanalyst about the boy. Counsel for the boy defended the grant of bail. His counsel argued that the bail was granted keeping in view the welfare of the boy.
Additional Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar later reserved order on the appeal for May 18. The Delhi Police had apprehended the minor offender first on April 5, a day after the accident.
However, he was freed on bail as he was at that particular time booked under softer Section 304A (causing death by rash or negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
His counsel argued the bail was granted with the boy's welfare in mind
