September 25, 2010 03:58 pm | Updated 03:58 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

As the hour of the Commonwealth Games draws nearer, special arrangements have been made at the Indira Gandhi International Airport to welcome guests to the Capital.

Protocol and CGA Relations joint director-general Aslam Khan said: “We receive the guests at the aerobridges from where they are escorted to the protocol desk and then to a special domestic arrivals area in Terminal 3. They are then taken to immigration where there are 12 counters earmarked for Games delegates. Following a fast-track immigration clearance, they are taken to the T3 lounge and provided with valid passes for participating in the Games.”

About 85-90 individuals are involved in the welcome protocol.

The Delhi International Airport Limited which is helping in receiving delegates said in a statement that “arrangements are in place for safe, secure and expeditious clearance of CWG guests”.

A reception point at the international pier junction has been set up to receive guests which will be managed by a Games committee. Another dedicated reception point has been set up near the immigration counter.

Terminal 3 will have a lounge in the arrival area for visitors. Delegates arriving at the domestic terminal 1-D will be provided airside transfer to T3.

Other facilities include a media enclosure, transport desk, dedicated pick up and vehicle parking areas, back-office space, multiple agency co-ordination centre and security control room. DIAL will also provide backup support for IT services and operations.
