The Delhi government will set up a centre to help traders understand the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Addressing the ‘CII Delhi State Annual Session’ on Thursday, Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said he wanted to set up the cell in coordination with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to help traders understand GST, which is expected to come into effect from July 1.

“If we do not help the traders, Delhi will have to face a big loss [in terms of business],” Mr. Sisodia said.

Skill centres needed

He also advocated running skill centres on the premises of government schools in the evening with the help of private players. “The youth can be trained at the centres so that they can prepare themselves in line with the industry demands,” he said.

Mr. Sisodia also proposed a public-private-partnership model for combating rising pollution levels.

He added that a solution to sanitation and garbage management woes could not be found until the government worked with private players.
