In its continuous efforts aimed at “improving convenience of bus commuters”, the Delhi government is launching a “unique facility” of detailed maps at bus shelters providing details on bus routes and bus timings in addition to neighbourhood maps, a senior Delhi government official said.
Initially planned at four bus stops as part of a pilot project, two of these, according to the official, were scheduled to be inaugurated by Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot at the Delhi Secretariat bus stop on Vikas Marg on Thursday.
New bus depots
“The bus route map is a cognitive map at par with transit maps in top cities globally such as London and New York among others,” the official claimed.
About 1,200 new bus queue shelters were proposed to be constructed by the Delhi government in 2015-16. To accommodate new buses being purchased by the Delhi Transport Corporation and to be added under cluster scheme in 2018-19, seven bus depots at Dichaun Kalan-II, Bawana Sector-I, Rewla Khanpur, Rani Khera-I, Rani Khera-II, Rani Khera-III, and Dwarka Sector-22 have been completed.
Six new bus depots at Gumanhera, Mundela Kalan, Rohini Sector-37, East Vinod Nagar, Bawana Sector-5 and VIU Burari are also scheduled to be constructed in 2018-19 for which an outlay of ₹80 crore has been planned in this year’s budget.
