Sonia, Priyanka in Shimla on private visit

Congress president Sonia Gandhi who was here on a three- day private tour has taken a stock of the party’s activities and met PCC president Sukhwinder Singh and senior Congress leader and IPH Minister Vidya Stokes on Wednesday.

The Congress president, who had come along with her daughter Priyanka Vadra to monitor her under construction bungalow at Chharabra, met the two leaders from Ms. Stoke’s faction only and none from the Virbhadra Singh’s faction of the Congress. The octogenarian Stokes had a close ties with the Gandhi family since the days of Indira Gandhi and was also instrumental in arranging land for Priyanka Vadra for her dream house on the outskirts of Shimla at Chharabara, 10 km from the main town.

The Congress leaders met Ms. Gandhi separately and believed to have discussed the organisational matters. She also discussed the future of party and Congress government in the hill State with the senior Minister Vidya Stokes in the wake of recent CBI investigations against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his family members. Ms. Priyanka Vadra was present in both the meetings, said the sources.

The orchard home of Priyanka at the high security zone in Chharabara has taken shape and is nearing completion.
