UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Monday joined a group of school children to celebrate Holi, the festival of colour that signifies the arrival of spring.
Ms. Gandhi put ‘gulal’ on the forehead of the children and distributed sweets to them.
Senior party leaders including AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Minister Mukul Wasnik, senior leader R.K. Dhawan and a number of CWC members and AICC general secretaries visited Ms. Gandhi on the occasion.
Several politicians and diplomats gathered at Lodhi Gardens to play with colours.
Celebrations began in the capital Sunday evening with lighting up of bonfire, known as ‘Holika Dahan’ People set ablaze effigies of Holika, the sister of demon King Hiranyakashyap, at several places.
However, Holi was a low-key affair for BJP leaders here who preferred not to celebrate the festival in a grand way due to the death of RSS leader Nanaji Deshmukh on Saturday.
