Those held include the sister-in-law of jailed drug lord Sharafat Sheikh
Two persons, including the sister-in-law of drug lord Sharafat Sheikh, have been arrested at Hazrat Nizamuddin in South-East Delhi. The police claim to have seized from them a consignment of smack from their possession.
The police received information that some close accomplices and relatives of Sharafat Sheikh, who is presently lodged in Tihar Jail, were dealing in drugs. They zeroed in on one Fatima (41), the sister of his wife Zohra Sheikh who is also in judicial custody in a case of drug trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested the suspect and an accomplice named Pappu (26) on Sunday. “We seized 103 gm of smack from their possession. Two separate cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station,” said a police officer.
During interrogation, Fatima purportedly disclosed that her father earlier worked at the Australian Embassy in Chanakyapuri, where she lived with him in the servant quarters. She completed her Class X from a government school on Malcha Marg and thereafter, she was married to one Mohammad Amin, a government school teacher in Kashmir. The accused worked as a beautician in South Delhi during 1994-96. After her sister Zohra got married to Sharafat, the police said she was also initiated into drug trade. “She started receiving consignments of drugs from Sharafat’s contacts operating in the bordering areas of Delhi. Both Sharafat and his wife have been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. After they were jailed, their children started living with Fatima,” said the officer.
