Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday launched the sixth Economic Census in Delhi by furnishing her details to the enumerator who visited her official residence for collecting the information and filling up the schedules for recording details of the households and establishments.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit urged all Delhi citizens to extend their full cooperation in furnishing accurate and complete information during the 6th Economic Census.

She said this census would result in complete enumeration of all establishments/units performing economic activities within the geographical boundaries of Delhi. Over February and March, about 12,000 enumerators and supervisors will carry out the census in about 33,200 enumeration blocks spread over the 11 revenue districts of Delhi.

The field survey is expected to cover around 45 lakh census households. The earlier surveys were conducted in 1977, 1980, 1990, 1998 and 2005.

Apart from data from the organised sector, the Economic Census would also seek to capture the data in respect of the unorganised sector which plays an important role in Delhi’s economy.
