Six persons, including a woman and her two-year-old son, were killed and two injured in five road accidents that took place in different parts of the city on Thursday and Friday.

In the first case, a 25-year-old Nepalese national was fatally knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near Nirman Vihar on Vikas Marg here on Thursday. The police suspect a Mercedes car could be involved in the accident.

Ramu Singh, who worked as a domestic help in New Rajdhani Enclave, was crossing the road near Nirman Vihar around 10-30 p.m. when a vehicle hit him at high speed. Ramu sustained serious injuries and was declared brought dead at a hospital.

Though over a dozen people were present near the spot, none of them could note down the registration number of the vehicle. The police, however, found the logo of a Mercedes car at the spot leading to suspicion that it could be involved in the accident.

The police are now scrutinising the footage of closed-circuit television cameras at a nearby metro station and a nearby banquet hall to identify the vehicle.

Ramu was going to meet his brother Gopal Singh in Laxmi Nagar when the accident took place, the police said. Ramu is survived by his wife and a nine-month-old son. He had come to Delhi over a decade ago.

In another accident in Mayur Vihar on Friday morning, a 23-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed while his 19-year-old friend sitting on the pillion suffered critical injuries after their vehicle hit the siding of a flyover and fell over.

“Haider Mehandi and his friend Ali Mehandi were going towards Khoda Colony. As they reached Mayur Vihar flyover, Haider lost control over the bike and they fell from the flyover leading to Haider’s death on the spot and serious injuries to Ali, who was taken to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment,” said a police officer.

In Outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala, a 38-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind on Friday.

According to the police, Bijender Kumar (42), a resident of Rani Khera, was on his way to his native place in Haryana on a motorcycle along with his wife Murti Devi and son Prince around 9-30 a.m. when a truck hit them from behind on Kanjhawala Road. All three fell on the road and the woman was run over by the truck leading to her instant death. The boy, who was flung into the air, fell on the road sustaining head injuries and was later declared brought dead at a hospital. Bijender escaped with minor injuries. Bijender is a teacher at a private school in Delhi. The truck driver has been arrested.

Two accidents were also reported from South East Delhi where a 25-year-old motor cyclist and a 50-year-old pedestrian died in Sarita Vihar and Badarpur respectively. In Sarita Vihar, 25-year-old Kundan was going on his motorcycle when it was allegedly hit by a speeding truck. The driver who abandoned the truck and fled the spot was subsequently arrested. On Wednesday night in Badarpur, the body of a 50-year-old man was found and the police said it appeared that he was hit by a vehicle.
