At least six people have been arrested and 200 others booked for rioting and creating a ruckus at the Vivo factory premises in Ecotech-I of Greater Noida late on Tuesday night. A company spokesperson said the unit was closed on Wednesday and work would likely resume from Thursday.

An FIR was filed by an official of World Trade Centre commercial complex, where the VIVO factory is situated. “After examining the loss the officials came to lodge an FIR. They have named around 200 unknown employers of the factory in the ruckus inside the premises of the factory.” said Nishank Sharma, Circle officer -1, Greater Noida.

CCTV footage

CCTV footage was scanned by the police and the accused were later arrested. “Following the complaint, we scanned the CCTV footage and a search was conducted in the nearby areas where the employees lived. The main accused were nabbed and further probe is on,” Mr. Sharma added.

On Tuesday, many of the employees were asked to leave the company after lunch. The workers then gathered in large numbers and staged a protest. They also broke windows of the building and cell-phone assembly units in the factory. The security guards and workers clashed outside the company gates for about half an hour before the police brought the situation under control.
