The Opposition bench in the Delhi Assembly was strengthened on Tuesday with newly elected Rajouri Garden MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa being administered the oath by the Speaker of the House.

Mr. Sirsa, a BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal candidate, won the Rajouri Garden Assembly bypoll defeating his Congress rival. The Opposition in Delhi Assembly comprises three BJP legislators — Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, Jagdish Pradhan and O. P. Sharma.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had won 67 of 70 Delhi Assembly seats in the 2015 election.

After taking oath, Mr. Sirsa thanked the voters of his constituency and pledged to work for their welfare besides “exposing non-performance” of the AAP government in the House.
