: Starting this year, three Sikh minority colleges in Delhi University will come up with their own cut-off lists for admissions.
Till last year, two Christian minority institutions— St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College— were the only colleges in the varsity to follow such a practice.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the admission’s committee last week. A member of the committee said: “Four colleges including Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Mata Sundari College for Women and Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College had applied for a separate merit list provision. However, an approval has been given to the first three," said an official.
While the colleges will decide their own merit criteria, there will be no separate admission forms for these colleges, the official added. The colleges, which are funded by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, were given minority status with 50 per cent quota in 2011.
Officials say permission was not accorded to Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College as one of its teachers objected to a minority status for the institution. The matter is pending in court.
Meanwhile, the varsity has also decided to come up with only five cut-off lists this year. Last year, there were 10 lists, and the admission process had continued till August. Admissions to undergraduate courses are going to begin on May 28, and the registration process will be completely online this year to avoid “duplication”.
