Siblings die in cylinder blast

May 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A young woman and her brother were killed when a cooking gas cylinder exploded at their residence in North-East Delhi’s Jafrabad on Friday.

The siblings— Geeta (23) and Kamal (19) — were the only members present at the house at the time of the accident. Their mother had gone to a neighbour’s house, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) A.K. Singla said prima facie it appeared that the accident happened when the duo was trying to transfer LPG from a bigger cylinder to a smaller one. It is suspected that there was a leakage in either of the cylinders or the pipe used for the transfer.

The compressor in the refrigerator also blasted due to the fire, added the police. Two fire tenders were pressed into service, but the siblings had been completely burnt by then. While Kamal died on the spot, Geeta succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
