Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday slammed the Opposition for misleading the people about the performance of Delhi Government schools and said that 124 out of 200 toppers from government schools in Class XII exams across the country were from Delhi.
Ms. Dikshit, who was speaking at a function in Sarojini Nagar on Sunday, defended the performance of government-run schools and said the charges of malpractices against the students and teachers were unfounded.
The Delhi Education Department also issued a statement dismissing the reports about alleged unfair practices in government schools during senior secondary examinations as “totally false and baseless” and an attempt to demean the hard work put in by the students and the teachers of these schools.
Arguing that the examination was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, an independent body, and answer sheets evaluated by external evaluators, the Department in a press statement said that Delhi Government schools were the best performing schools in the government school category for 2012-13 with a pass percentage of 88.62 per cent.
More than a hundred government schools here had cent per cent result in Class XII CBSE exams and 522 schools had more than 90 per cent pass percentage.
