Delhi CM also distributed loan cheques to textile trainees
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday distributed mobile STD/PCOs to handicapped persons on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi which was celebrated as Sadbhavna Diwas at her residence.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit urged the poor and needy to come forward and avail of the benefits provided by Delhi Government under its various schemes.
The Chief Minister said the mobile PCO scheme had been implemented by the Delhi SC/ST/OBC/Minorities and Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation Limited. She said the scheme that is operational since 2004-05 was specifically meant for the hearing and speech impaired and the orthopaedically handicapped.
The 30 mobile STD/ISD/PCO that were distributed had cost Rs.19,205 per beneficiary and a total amount of Rs. 5.76 lakh had been incurred on them. Asserting that the response under this scheme had been encouraging, Ms. Dikshit said till now 369 mobile STD/ISD/PCOs have been distributed by the Corporation to the physically challenged persons for self-employment.
The Chief Minister also distributed 50 loan cheques for Rs.1 lakh each under the Composite Loan Scheme and 45 certificates to the trainees who had successfully completed various textile designing courses conducted by the Apparel Training and Design Centre.
