Sheila Dikshit turns 74

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit turned 74 today and a large number of Congressmen including her Cabinet colleagues thronged her residence to wish her on the occasion.

It was festive atmosphere at her 3-Motilal Nehru Place residence as supporters started thronging there since early in the morning with musical bands adding colour to the celebrations.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also greeted her on the occasion of her birthday.

“I think people appreciate my work and that is why they have come in large numbers. I will continue to work hard to make the city better,” Ms. Dikshit said.

The Chief Minister also had to cut several birthday cakes which were presented to her by her well-wishers and friends. She was also presented bouquets, greeting cards, flower pots and other gifts.

Members of her family, including son and MP Sandeep Dikshit, were among the first to wish her.

Ms. Dikshit was born on March 31, 1938 in Punjab’s Kapurthala.
