Two men sustained bullet injuries and five were hurt in a clash between two groups following a dispute over parking of a motorcycle at Shakarpur in East Delhi on Thursday. Four of the accused have been arrested.
Shauqat Ali, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, reached Subhash Chowk along with a female friend around 10 a.m. and was parking his motorcycle outside a property dealer’s office when its owner Mahendra Singh Rathi (60) raised objection. The property dealer asked Shauqat to park the motorcycle elsewhere, which led to an altercation between them.
It is alleged that Shauqat left the place in a huff and returned with about half-a-dozen young men. They allegedly attacked Mahendra Singh and his employee Ganesh. The property dealer also called up his men and a full-fledged fistfight broke out between the two groups. Mahendra Singh then allegedly took out his licensed firearm and fired five rounds. While a bullet hit a rickshaw-puller, Raja, in the hand, another hit a passer-by, Omkar Yadav, in the stomach. Apart from Raja and Omkar Yadav, five others were injured in the clash. They were identified as Mahendra Singh, Shauqat, Prem Kishan, Mohsin Ali and Ganesh. All of them were taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital from where Omkar, who is stated to be critical, was later shifted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.
Based on complaints from both sides, the police have registered two cases. They have so far arrested Mahendra Singh, Shauqat, Prem Kishan and Ganesh. The licensed firearm of the elderly property dealer, which was allegedly used in the commission of crime, has also been seized. Investigations are under way to identify others involved in the incident.
